JUNGLE WASTELAND
Graphic Design Project

The Backstory
As part of my MSc in Creative Advertising I undertook the module 'Design for Beginners'. Where I was tasked for one of my pieces of coursework to develop a selection of Graphic Designs + MockUps for a brief of my choice - of which I chose the Music Festival brief.

The inspiration for Jungle Wasteland, was from a trip I took to Budapest were I went to the Sziget Music Festival. It was such a surreal feeling being there, it felt like you could totally escape and forget yourself. Which I thought was a fun idea to build upon. I also loved the idea of a jungle theme, juxtaposed with this idea of this grungy wasteland environment.

Since graduation, I have reworked this project. As you will see, it's totally different. The first time creating this I was playing around more with Photoshop, but since then I've reworked everything on Illustrator.

The ObjecTIVE

Create a hypothetical set of designs for a Music Festival, which has to appeal to 20-30 age target audience.

MY UPDATED LOGO

The Thought Process

The initial idea for the logo was to keep it really simplistic, as the initial designs used a lot of heavy patterned and coloured photographs. However, since taking more of an illustrative style, I decided to use a fun font for the logo, and make it more of a focal point for the designs.

Tickets

The initial design of the ticket used deep leafy photography and a clipping mask, so that you could

see through the text into the jungle behind. However, upon reflection the design feels very crowded; with a large amount of text in various sizes and different formatting. For the newer design I've stripped it back to have just the necessary text and funky QR code.

Each and every plant you can see above has been hand-drawn by me, with Adobe Illustrator and my laptop touch-pad. I recognise some people prefer to use the likes of Procreate with an IPad + Pencil - however, I personally enjoy using my laptop and touch-pad to create some of my illustrative designs. Just as I find it easier for myself to easily add in text and various backgrounds, with touching the integrity of the design.
